Everyone needs enough to eat…
United Community Action Partnership is committed to helping. Through partnerships with community members, volunteers and businesses, we are addressing chronic hunger in many ways, such as by offering local food shelves, SNAP Outreach, NAPS and more. Continue reading below to learn more about the programs we offer.
Food Shelves
UCAP’s Food Shelves
UCAP operates food shelves in several locations, including Kitchen Table Food Shelf in Marshall, Mary & Martha’s Pantry of Westbrook, Kitchen Table Food Shelf in Tracy, Heron Lake/Okabena Food Shelf, and our newest addition, The Global Market in Worthington.
What’s great about our setup? We let people choose their own food through the “client choice” system, and we provide varying amounts based on family size. So, whether you’re in Marshall or Worthington, you can count on UCAP to lend a helping hand!
SNAP Outreach
SNAP and how UCAP can help…
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) serves as an additional resource for assisting low-income individuals in purchasing essential food items like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains crucial for maintaining good health.
As part of SNAP Outreach, UCAP is reaching out to eligible low-income people who are not currently participating in SNAP to share information about the nutrition benefits of SNAP to help them make an informed participation decision.
We can help with your SNAP Application!
We know that filling out the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) application can be confusing. Our trained staff will make sure that all the required information is submitted the first time, and help people get the benefits they are eligible for as soon as possible. Please note, while our staff assists with application completion, eligibility determination is solely managed by the state.
NAPS Outreach
The NAPS Program
The NAPS program is designed to is to provide complimentary food assistance to individuals aged 60 and above. This program plays a vital role in fulfilling our objectives by alleviating food insecurity among seniors. Participants in the NAPS program receive a monthly food package along with a portion of Bongards cheese.
This beneficial program is administered by UCAP to seniors residing in Cottonwood, Lyon, Renville and Redwood Counties who meet the income eligibility requirements.
Farmer’s Market Accessibility Outreach
United Community Action Partnership staff are working with area Farmer’s Markets to make fresh, local foods available to more people. Participating markets accept SNAP/EBT benefits, credit and debit cards, and cash.
